A New Way for People with Optical Problems

KARMA Inlay Corneal Implant

There are most people who cannot stand wearing glasses all the time, so they try to find ways to replace their reading glasses by wearing contacts. But that don’t always work for some people. But now there is this invention that can replace the reading glasses that people have long for that have presbyopia, the blurred vision that many of our people that are of age of 40 and over experience when reading. There is a group called AcuFocus that have been receiving approval from the FDA from 2 years ago on April 5, 2015. They have been giving this approval of the FDA because they have seen the results when AcuFocus has been conducting 5-years in clinical study of 508 patients. The name of this invention is call KARMA Inlay. And what this piece of device is a circular, opaque device, which is only done by surgically implanted in a patient non-dominant eye. For Patients who have not been in a cataract surgery before, this device can extend the depth-of-focus and will allow the patient, he or she, too easily read or work on the computer without their reading glasses.  According to the FDA, they say that this KARMA Inlay Corneal Implant marks the first major advancement in presbyopia surgery in over a decade. This implant is now available in over 50 countries and it’s will certainly help many patients see more clearly and more accurately.

New Smart, Huggable bear to Comfort Children’s Anxiety in Hospitals

Smart Huggable Bear

Children in hospitals is rough, because there are some children don’t know how serious their disease or whatever kind symptom they have till they get older and it can be a scary thing for a child once they understand what kind of position that they are in. Another thing is that for a child that should stay in the hospital till the Doctor knows what disease that they are dealing with, it can be boring for a child in the hospital because he or she doesn’t have anything to cope with the pain that they are feeling and the feeling of being alone from time to time and not have anybody to conversant with. So Now, there is a tech toy that have been made to be huggable, and that is an interactive teddy bear that was developed by the MIT Media Lab. What this huggable teddy bear device does is that it can help ease the children’s anxiety in the hospital by asking the children questions, joking with them, and the huggable teddy bear device is equipped to also play games. This teddy bear’s name is Huggable, and it will also be equipped with sensors that can tell how hard a patient is squeezing, which without a doubt can be effective in every way to measure a child’s pain. One will have to really see the video and to be amaze about how this huggable teddy bear device can help children cope with their problem. And to come to a full understanding of how amazing this bear is.

In Implant that Accurately Predicts Which Cancer Drugs Work

Implant to Predict Effective Cancer Drugs

As everybody likely to know, there is still not enough information that we know about cancer because not all cancer is the same. But there is a drug that can destroy a tumor in a single patient, and could be completely ineffective in another. The problematic of this is that, there are a enormous amount of different cancer drugs on the market. Furthermore, trying to predict which kind of drug that will work on a patient has been a little more than a educated guessing. Until recently, that is. There is a researching team that is from MIT that have been developing and testing a tiny, implantable device that can accurately predict which kind of drug that would work on a specific tumor. When the device is implanted into a tumor, this tiny device releases minute quantities of different cancer modifications. There are variety of medications that have an affect only if one can get a slice of the tumor from a patient. After that, the Doctor can see which parts of the tumor that reacted the best and then he or she makes the final judgement of which course of action to take. Without a doubt, time is of the essence when it comes to treating a cancerous patient. Being able to discover this breakthrough would mean that spending less time with the wrong treatments and relinquishing the patient more time with the best treatment that the patient’s Doctor could possibly give.

A Electronic Aspirin That Treats Headaches

A technology that can help a lot of people that are struggling with migraines, cluster headaches, and other types of symptoms that causes chronic, one the most acute head or facial pain, there is always this method that the doctor always use on his or her patients when the have a headache. And that is “take two aspirin and call in the morning” thing and it just does not cut it anymore for most people. For decades, Doctors have associated the long and severe, chronic forms of headaches with the (SPG), which is known for the Sphenopalatine ganglion. A facial nerve bundle, yet haven’t found a treatment that works on the Sphenopalatine ganglion in long-term. A technology that is under clinical investigation at a company called Autonomic Technologies, Inc., which is stationed in Redwood City, California is a patient-powered tool for blocking SPG signals at the first sign of a person’s headache. This system incorporates a permanent implant that of a small nerve to stimulate the device in the upper gum on the side of the head that is normally affected by headache. The tip of the implant connects to the SPG bundle, and when some patients senses the inception of a headache, he or she places a handheld remote controller on the cheek nearest to the implant. Then the resulting signals stimulate the SPG nerves and then blocks the pain-causing neurotransmitters.

A new Catheter for Patients that are going for Open Heart Surgery

A new trans catheter aortic valve was made and manufactured by a company name Edwards Life Sciences that is stationed at Irvine, California. This piece of an equipment is for patients that are having a open heart surgery and that needs a new valve but cannot resist the rigors of the operation. This is a good thing to know especially for nurses that are working in the hospital and is working on a floor that deals with cardiac surgery patients. It is called the Sapien and it has been released in Europe for quite some time but is now started to make its first appearance in the United States heart centers, when they are only limited only to the frailest patients thus so far. The Sapien Trans catheter does to is that it is guided through the femoral artery that by a catheter from a small incision that is near the grown or rib cage. This valve material is made up of bovine tissue which is attached to a stainless-steel stent, it is expanded by inflating a small balloon when correctly, placed in the valve spaced. A more easier procedure is that to promise dramatically shorter hospitalizations are bound to have a positive effect on the cost of care for patients.

There is a new Technology that can help cut back on Melanoma Biopsies

There is a new way on cutting back on melanoma Biopsies. A group called “MELA Sciences” have made a   device called MelaFind Optical Scanner, which is approved by the FDA to reduce the quantity of patients left with unnecessary biopsy scars and the chance to eliminate the cost of unnecessary procedures. I think that is wonderful things because people that have medical insurance they still can’t pay for the expense of the procedure getting done. So, the insurance company will have to let one pay the other half of the procedure being done. The dermatologist really did make the right call of teaming up with the most brilliant minds to make this MelaFind Optical Scanner technology the key to helping patients that have skin cancer and more that must do with skin. What the MelaFind Technology uses is the missile navigational technology that was originally paid from the department of defense to scan the surface of the suspicious lesion at 10 electromagnetic wavelengths. Collecting the signals is a process by using heavy duty algorithms and matched to go against a registry of 10,000 digital images of melanoma and skin disease. the MelaFind Optical Scanner is not just for diagnosing but to give accurate information to the doctor so he or she can determine rather to order for a biopsy or not.

New Technology for Taking Glucose

In the medical field, it’s been decades that in hospitals are always sticking patients for blood sugar the old fashion way. But now there is a new way of taking patient’s blood sugar that have diabetes.  A company that is called Echo Therapeutics, which is stationed in Pennsylvania, Philadelphia is making a patch device called Symphony. Now what the company is trying to do is replacing the need of using needles to stick the patients for blood sugar. the Symphony patch device is a biosensor that reads blood analysts through a person’s skin without the need for drawing blood. This technology has to involve in handling electronic-toothbrush-like device that have to remove just a little amount of top-layer of skin cells to actually putting the patient’s blood chemistry within the signal range of the patch-born biosensor. The biosensor then sensors and collect one reading per minute and then sends the data through wirelessly to a remote monitor, then triggering audible alarms when levels go out of the patient’s optimal range and then tracking glucose levels within time. This is one of the most advanced technology in the medical field and is being developed for this sole purpose. It would be a great addition to the many hospitals that don’t have to stick patients for blood sugar because sometimes when you are poking the patients for where ever find a vein, is not always easy to find and that can cause for the skin to look discolored and maybe edema (swelling).
